Benito Mussolini was the dictator who rose to power in Italy during the interwar period as a fascist party. Mussolini held power from 1922-1943 but was actually killed by his own people. He gave himself the name "IL Duce" when he took power. In 1935 Mussolini invaded Abyssinia (now Ethiopia) to add to his new European empire.
Gabriele D'Annunzio was an Italian airman and romantic writer who led a group of ex soldiers to secure the town of Fiume which rightfully did belong to them after a promise that was broken. Dominantly it was theirs according to the current Italian people residing there. He stayed out there for over a year and established a government. Thing ended badly, he was expelled from Fiume and the ex soldiers were sent back to be under Mussolini's rule. |
